Sr. Lila Marie Sciabica, IHM

Our good God has held me in the palm of His hand through many joys

Growing up in a large family that lived two blocks from the church was quite interesting. Attending St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in Bellefonte, Pa, was a great start. Blessed to have had the IHM Sisters from 1st through 7th was a great journey. I had two beautiful faith-filled parents who made sure we knew our prayers and prayed at night on our knees but always to be grateful for whatever God was asking of us. I must say that God had surely given me a love for music and was able to share that with my parish throughout my life.LilaSciabicaTeaching

I wanted to enter the convent in the sophomore year at Penn State. My mother and father asked me to finish my college, work for a year and then decide. That's what happened. I felt quite privileged to have had my college degree and taught before I entered.

In 1985, I entered the IHM Congregation and I still to this day thank God for the great love and support my family and sisters have given to me. My sisters have been so supportive throughout the journey. Our good God has held me in the palm of His hand through many joys of sharing in happenings of community and yes the very sad times of losing parents and a sibling. I could never have endured this journey without the faith and goodness of a God that will never leave me orphaned. I celebrate Mary our Mother, who's never failing intercession keeps my heart gentle and ever open to all the grace-filled moments that are yet to come. My Yes to God shall continue only with prayer, perseverance, compassion and joy I find in serving God every day.

Sister Lila currently serves as chaplain in the ICU department at Geisinger-CMC Hospital in Scranton, PA.
